Process

I aim to create rich visual arrangement through gesture, transparency and hue.

At first glance, anyone can regard just the surface of the painting. Then underneath the layers, lines and marks, hidden color fields and structures emerge, so do shapes and forms that relate to one another. The artifacts and history of the painting show through and tell its story.

Whether working directly from nature or in the studio, the canvas must develop from a state of pure possibility and potential to a bona fide set of dynamic relationships. The composition of elements must ultimately reach the emotions of the viewer and endure through time.
